Scholastic Learn at Home

Developed for students in grades PreK-9, Scholastic is united in learning to offer reading journeys to keep kids reading, learning, and growing. Daily readings and activities are provided to keep your kids challenged. There is a Shout Out section that allows kids to see what is new, as well as virtual author events through Scholastic’s Home Base.

Lalilo for Phonics and Comprehension

Lalilo is an online literacy program built by teachers for teachers for kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade teachers and students. Students work on adaptive exercises in phonics, word recognition, and comprehension. They journey through different worlds, collecting badges and unlocking stories. The vocabulary-rich stories teach students about nature and animals in engaging and fun ways. Teachers can track whole class and individual progress. They can also assign specific lessons.

It’s an extensive digital library of free, original, high-interest language arts and math learning materials, provided in downloadable PDF format, for unlimited use with elementary, intermediate, and middle school students. Immersive Reader, Chrome Extension Must-Have

Immersive Reader is a must-have Chrome extension that once installed to your Chrome browser will give your students the ability to have web content read to them. Students would highlight content, right-click and select ‘help me read this’. Your screen is transformed to the Immersive Reader format. Simply click the play button at the bottom of the screen and follow along as the text is read to you. Settings for speed, showing parts of speech, syllables, and line focus are also available. And more thing… you can have the text translated and have a picture dictionary option for the words. What a great tool for ESOL learners as well. A screenshot is posted below.
