Goose Chase on a Mission

Scavenger hunts… We know what they are all about, but did you know Goose Chase EDU is an educational scavenger hunt designed for 21st century learners?  Participants work in teams (or independently depending on your account type) and solve missions for point values.goose chase edu

Here’s how it works:

  1. Create games from scratch or view and copy hunts curated by other educators.
  2. Start the competition with participants working in teams with mobile devices.
  3. Track and review progress through the Leaderboard and Activity Feed – keeping participants engaged and giving you realtime insight into progress.

Sesame Snap – Assess with Visual Evidence

sesame snap logoSesame Snap is a free app to capture student assessment and record student performance much like the SeeSaw app for digital journaling but with the option for rubrics.

Easily save photos or videos of student work on the go – even without an Internet connection!  Furthermore, record assessments using comments, rubrics, checklists and rating scales with just a few taps. Everything is automatically organized into each student’s portfolio.

You can even grant student access with unique scan codes so they can capture their own work and reflections – without ever having to memorize usernames or passwords.

Student-driven documentation
∙ Create “snaps” with photos, videos, audios, Google Docs, links or PDFs as evidence of learning.
∙ For younger learners, sign in on shared devices with QR codes instead of passwords. Or you can sign in using Google Apps for Education email/password.
∙ Import directly from 100’s of your favourite apps to show off learning in one place.

Instant authentic feedback
∙ Assess with comments, rubric, checklist or score tools that become instantly visible to students.
∙ Build trust and respect with families by inviting them to view updates in each student’s portfolio.
∙ Teachers always have control of who can see what.

Easy tracking and collaboration
∙ Tag local curriculum standards to student artifacts and assessments.
∙ Gradebook export and student portfolio makes report card writing a snap.
∙ Showcase students by their skills rather than test scores.

FlipSnack for Online Digital Publications

What a great alternative for students to showcase their work or submit assignments than from an ordinary presentation or slideshow. Easily create, share, and embed stunning HTML5 flipbooks online for free. Transforming your PDFs to a fully mobile digital flipbook couldn’t be any easier.

I created these flipbooks by converting my PPT to PDF. The PDF was then uploaded to FlipSnack. I added a hyperlink to the last page of Our Solar System to demonstrate interactivity.

Visit My FlipSnack library to see where you can build and store your own digital library of resources.  https://flipsnack.com/sylanderson

Another flipbook worth looking at by Kimberly Kelly, Media Specialist – New Books 2018

Give it a try!  You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to work with and share.

Mark It Up With Kami

How can I get students to edit a pdf file?

To truly edit a PDF file, you need a program like Adobe Acrobat, however, if you are ok with edits being made over the top of a PDF, then Kami is for you!

Kami is a Google extension that gives users the ability to mark up a PDF file with text, underlines, strikethroughs, drawings, basic shapes and lines, and even leave comments to the side.  This tool would be a valuable addition to the Chromebook to use in conjunction with Schoology.

Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for PDF Markup. Install the Kami extension and you are in business.  Kami is also available as an app. Please note that XODO is also a pdf markup tool. I have looked at both and prefer Kami because saving was easier, however, the choice would be your own. One thing that XODO has that Kami didn’t have was the ability to apply a signature.

Boom Cards – Your Next Interactive Tool

Boom Cards are interactive lessons created by teachers for teachers. Think of them as a cross between flashcards and quizzes.  While free, other memberships range from basic to power to ultimate and are very reasonable.

  • INTERACTIVE – game feature keeps students engaged and asking for more.
  • SELF-GRADING – easily assign lessons to students which are self-grading.
  • PAPERLESS – no printing, photocopying, cutting, or laminating.

Boom Cards are perfect for mobile devices with apps for iOS, Android, and the Kindle.  They can also be used on a Chromebook.

Please follow the links in my post to take a look around and sign up for your free or basic account today.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

The gallery below is Mrs. Howard’s 3rd graders using Boom Cards for the first time. Students were given an activity on an author’s purpose. Then they read an article printed by the teacher and commented in their See Saw digital journal. Lastly, students watched a video as an intro to the next lesson on Rome.
