Google Jamboard for Remote Teaching, Equati0! Extension for Math Problems

Google Jamboard is a great tool that can be used as a digital whiteboard. Using your screen share feature in Big Blue Button, you can work with students in real-time, work within Google Drive, and collaborate with any device. For example, you want to work out a math problem to show the order of operations or you’re in a session to brainstorm ideas or complete an activity together.

This video shows how to use Jamboard for remote teaching and includes the Equati0! extension for math problems.

Dualless Chrome Extension

Do you miss not having the capability of being able to split screens on your chromebook? Well, check out Chrome’s Dualless extension. This feature lets you choose a ratio for how you want your screen split. Once installed from the Chrome Web Store, you click on the Chrome extension in the top right corner of your Chrome browser, select your display setting, and you’ve got a dual-like monitor display. Love it! Got to have it!

For those who don’t have dual monitors, this extension is for you.

Jamboard by Google

Google Jamboard is a great tool that can be used as a digital whiteboard in a Google Meet session for teaching and collaborating with your students. For example, you want to work out a math problem to show the order of operations or you’re in a meeting to brainstorm or complete an activity together.

Jamboard has been approved by the technology department and opened for elementary use as part of the Google for Education Suite. With Jamboard, you can work together in real time, work within Google Drive, collaborate with any device, and host video meetings. Chrome Remote Desktop

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to give remote control of your computer and mouse to another person in a Google Meet meeting?

This could be useful if you wanted your student to do an activity on your computer. Introducing, Chrome Remote Desktop, a Google extension that can be used with Google Meet to accomplish just that.

Eric Curts, Google expert explains how to install the extension and shows two different ways to give remote control of your computer and mouse to someone else. His 11-minute video is worth a look. How great is this for teaching math remotely?

Please note: the extension works well off site, however, if you should experience any problems on the ccps domain, then it will have to go through technology for approval. At the time of this posting, I had no means off testing the extension on the domain.

Lions, Tigers, and Bears, Oh My!

Are your kids studying animals and need a project to reinforce what they are learning? Then consider this: Augmented Reality for the animal and a Diorama for the animal’s habitat.

Visualize learning with Google’s new Augmented Reality (AR) mobile / tablet feature that allows you to project a 3D animal on your screen in a setting of your choosing or as an object you can manipulate. It’s easy, no app required.

How To Use

  1. Open Chrome and enter a search for your favorite animal on your smartphone or tablet. (Make sure your settings allow Chrome to access your camera).
  2. Scroll down until you find a new white box that says “Meet a life-sized [animal] up close.” with an animation of said animal under the wikipedia info.
  3. Click on the “View in 3D” icon to the left of the animal within the box.
  4. At this point your screen will change like a pop-out window.
  5. There are two tabs at the top –
Object – where you can manipulate the animal.
AR – where your animal will appear in your setting. Wiggle your phone or tablet until the animal appears. Use the diorama for the background setting.

ANIMAL LISTING – Alligator, Angler fish, Brown bear, Cat, Cheetah, Dog, Duck, Eagle, Emperor penguin, Goat, Hedgehog, Horse, Leopard, Lion, Macaw, Octopus, Pug, Giant panda, Rottweiler, Shark, Shetland pony, Snake, Tiger, Turtle, Wolf.
