Peanutize Me

peanut profile 500Peanutize Me – This was shared with me this morning so I am sharing it here. Cute site for creating a Peanut character of yourself. For fun, use it as a profile image or set it as wallpaper. Instructionally, I can see this being used for digital story writing. Students can design a few characters/scenes and then use them to create their own comic telling a story that contains the 5 story peanut wallpaper 700elements.
Check it out – peanutizeme.com Thanks for sharing Ron! Yes, that’s me with the blonde hair – Ha!

Spring Break Geocaching On Way To Florida

I drove south to the Sunshine State over spring break to visit my family and during my travels I took a little time to geocache so I could earn the state badge.  There were some interesting finds along the way.  My favorite was the tower.  Dana and I hit one ‘did not find’ cache in NC.  We spent 40 minutes on that little bear and surely looked like a couple of fools on the ground.  What made it fun was laughing at ourselves and each other for being so determined and coming up unable to log the find.  Some of the GPS coordinates had us going in circles. What’s up with that geocachers of America?

Fisheye and Macro Lenses for iPhones

I attended a session at a technology conference last year that was given by Bea Leiderman from Goochland County Schools.  She experimented with Ollo Lenses for her iPhone which lead her to write a couple of ebooks on insects.  Photography has always been of interest to me so I decided to give it try.  These are my fisheye examples. Click on them to see the raw image in full size view.

This is an example of my macro.

Although I was excited about my pictures, I felt the quality could be much better. I researched lenses and learned that iPro leads the industry for having the best quality lens.  They use a German made lens which explains it.  Following in second place is the Ollo brand lens.  I went back to Bea Leiderman’s website to find out what she used for her ebook photos because the quality of her macros was amazing.  She used the Ollo lens for its affordability compared to the iPro.  The brand I bought without really knowing about quality at the time was something generic by CamKix.

Anyone interested in photography using their iPhones should really consider quality, then price.  Take a look at Bea’s close-up pictures and compare them to mine if you want to see the difference for yourself.

Mid March Geocache Finds

Geocaching has become my new hobby. With less than 20 finds under my belt, I am now a Premium Member. There is a lot to learn about geocaching. It’s a global treasure hunt (that seems to be very popular in Germany, my country of birth).

More Geocaching

Saturday, February 28, 2015 – about 5″ of snow on the ground and 30 degree temps.  I found my first cache buddy, Misty the Maine Coon Cat that had been sitting in one of the caches below for about 2 years. I moved her to a new location. Happy trails Misty!

Friday, March 6, 2015 – about 8″ of snow on the ground and 20 degree temps. Found this cache on the way to Massanutten for a day of skiing, bruising, and lots of soreness. Great workout.
