High Efficiency Image File – HEIC Format

HEIC is an image format commonly used on iOS devices that requires less storage than the equivalent jpg format. You may have received pictures like this and can’t use them anywhere else because they are in a specialized mode format.

There are two things you can do.

1) use the HEICtoJPG site to convert images 5 at a time to the JPG format, or;

2) change your iPhone settings to Most Compatible. Settings>Camera>Formats>Most Compatible.

There is a slight difference in quality but not too noticeable unless you are advanced in graphics.

Little Alchemy 2

Combine elements to make up new elements, for example:
water and fire make up steam,
steam and the earth make up a geyser,
water and fire make up steam,
water and earth make mud

Little Alchemy2 is web-based or you can add it to your Chrome web browser as an extension that can be used offline as well. Go ahead and play around with it. It’ll get your students thinking about the states of matter.

SpinnerWheel

SpinnerWheel is more than just a wheel of names, it has a multi-wheel feature that allows you to add up to 8 wheels at once that can be spun independently or all at once. See my sample wheel activities below. I created a game for recalling math facts for addition or multiplication and one for sentence formation. Just think of the options you could create for coding challenges, story creation, creative thinking, and so much more.

I’m A Puzzle

This is a free online puzzle game. You can play as many times as you want, create puzzles from your own pictures and share them with your students, but here is the best part…

Make it a Math puzzle by making the goal of the puzzle to unlock pieces by solving the math problems and then put the pieces together.

To solve a challenge just click/tap on it and enter the solution using the calculator. On desktop computers you can also use the keyboard to enter the result. If your answer is correct, a puzzle piece is revealed.

To move a piece, just click/tap on it and drag it to the desired location. Try out this sample.
